Free day

Author: drakensberg

Today was a rest day for us after doing Dream, a night activity, until the early hours of this morning. After a late breakfast, most of us spent the day trading badges or visiting the last of the activities we are interested in.

Tomorrow sees us starting to pack up, and then going to a closing ceremony that will carry on until the early morning. On Sunday we catch a bus at 7.30 then our trip back to O.R.Tambo begins via Gotheborg and Frankfurt.

Welcome to Autumn town

Author: drakensberg

This evening all of the Springbok Scouts (4 participants and 4 Scouters) from Drakensberg attended a meeting of the Association of Top Achiever Scouts, which recognises Springbok, Queen Scout,King Scout, Eagle Scout, Tiger Scout and other equivalent ‘top’ awards. On the way back we stopped in the Autumn town centre, where most of the activities in our ‘town’ (the biggest division of the camp).

A folk band was playing traditional songs from this part of Sweden. There is an inflatable planetarium, a bouldering wall, an internet cafe, a cafe serving coffee, a first aid tent, and a charging station for cameras, phones etc. The large apple basket represents the harvest that happens during Autumn.

Tomorrow morning at 8:50 we leave for our camp-in-camp experience, where we will spend 24 hours camping as individual patrols.

Bohuslän subcamp at Global Develoment Village

Author: drakensberg

Today’s activities were in Global Development Village. Rob,one of the Belgian Scouters in our unit, has spent hours arranging an exchange. This morning, two of our patrols lined up with Scouts from 16 other troops to form mixed international patrols with Scouts from different countries. This is the second time our subcamp has done this, and it has helped people meet more people.

Global Development Village deals with world peace and human rights issues. One of the bases is about Shelter Box,a tent and survival kit in a box designed to support a family of ten. Scouts help distribute these boxes in areas affected by disaster.

Following on from the mixed patrol experience, many of our Scouts have completed the Friendship Award,a special Jamboree challenge they can only complete by participating as a mixed patrol.

(Photos from the opening ceremony and last few days are still on their way)
